Government Medical College Kathua Organises Plantation Drive to Promote a Green and Sustainable Campus

Government Medical College, Kathua on 3rd August organized a plantation drive within the college premises, particularly in the open area in front of the Boys' and Girls' Hostels, under the visionary guidance of Dr. Surinder Kumar Atri, Principal, Government Medical College Kathua, in collaboration with the Art of Living Foundation (NGO) and the Forest Department, Jammu & Kashmir.

The plantation drive witnessed enthusiastic participation from all Heads of the Departments, faculty members, Senior Residents, Junior Residents, MBBS undergraduate students, the Chief Accounts Officer, Deputy Director (Planning), Administrative Officer, and other administrative staff members, who collectively planted a large number of saplings with a commitment to preserving the environment and promoting ecological sustainability.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Surinder Kumar Atri emphasized that the monsoon season provides the most favourable conditions for plantation due to adequate rainfall and higher survival rates of newly planted saplings. He stated that plantation during the rainy season not only ensures healthy growth of trees but also contributes significantly towards improving air quality, conserving biodiversity, and mitigating the adverse effects of climate change.

Dr. Surinder Kumar Atri further reiterated that the development of a Green Campus remains one of the key priorities of GMC Kathua. He highlighted that increasing green cover creates a cleaner, healthier, and more pleasant environment for patients, students, and staff. He appealed to all members to actively participate in environmental conservation by nurturing the planted saplings.

Sh. Adwait Katyal along with other representatives of the Art of Living Foundation and the Forest Department appreciated the efforts of GMC Kathua and assured their continued support for similar initiatives in the future.
