Deputy Commissioner Kathua Rajesh Sharma inaugurated the district-level ‘Har Ghar Tiranga–Vande Mataram’ campaign at Auditorium Hall, GMC Kathua, marking the commencement of the twin campaign being observed from August 9 to 17. The inaugural programme aimed to promote patriotism and national pride besides sensitising the younger generation about India’s freedom struggle and the significance of national symbols. Students delivered presentations on the historical evolution of Vande Mataram, the National Flag Code and the National Anthem, highlighting their role in fostering national unity and identity. Speaking on the occasion, the DC said Vande Mataram remains deeply associated with India’s freedom struggle and continues to inspire patriotism and national awakening. He said the commemoration of its 150th anniversary provides an opportunity to recall the sacrifices and ideals that shaped the nation’s journey to freedom. The DC said the freedom enjoyed today is the result of the sacrifices of countless freedom fighters and urged the younger generation to remember their contribution and uphold the values for which they fought. Highlighting the significance of the Tricolour, he said the National Flag symbolises the unity, sovereignty, dignity and aspirations of the nation. He called upon students, youth, educational institutions, civil society organisations and the general public to participate actively in the campaign and celebrate it with patriotic fervour. The programme concluded with mass recitation of ‘Vande Mataram’ and the National Anthem, followed by an appeal to the people to uphold the dignity of the National Flag and remember with gratitude the sacrifices made for India’s freedom.
